ABOUT ME

Kapu1.jpg

ALOHA MAI,

I'm Kapu (she/they). I'm a Kanaka ʻŌiwi, Mixed Heritage, Queer, Registered Counselor Associate with a Gestalt and Somatics background. I hail from Maui, Hawai'i, and am currently based in Portland, Oregon. Outside of therapy, I have an eclectic background that includes creative movement, org work, teaching, social work, and filmmaking. As a therapist, I am passionate about fostering a genuine and engaging space (with a splash of humor) for individuals and relationships; creating room to explore what is while cultivating awareness.

EDUCATION

I obtained a Master’s Degree in Counseling with a focus on relationship and family therapy from Portland State University. My major coursework has included: multicultural counseling, group dynamics, child and family development, and advanced systemic perspectives. I am supervised by Roza Skenderova, MS, LPC and Pamela Ganem, MS, LPC, NCC. Additionally, I have sought training and education on anti-oppressive counseling for LGBTQ+ communities and trauma-informed services. I am also a member of the Gestalt Training Center of Seattle where I am trained in individual and couples therapy from a contemporary Gestalt perspective.
